Rachel Hutchinson is a textile artist from Northern Ireland who specialises in creating hand-stitched mixed media artwork. Fascinated by layering and building textures, she creates contemporary compositions with fine detail.
Following her 1st Class Textile Art degree from the University of Huddersfield in 2003, Rachel briefly worked in product development for a leading homewares company in Manchester before becoming a freelance artist and educator in Belfast from 2006.
Rachel has exhibited her work in a variety of galleries across the UK and Ireland and has received a number of awards for her work. She has produced numerous private and public commissions including recycled furniture for Queens Film Theatre, ‘Continuum’ for the Ulster Hospital Maternity Unit and ‘Fragment’ for Windsor Women’s Centre, funded by Arts and Business and Stratagem.
After a decade hiatus from the arts scene, Rachel began creating again in the summer of 2024. Her new work is a study of self reflection and identity with particular focus on connection and communication; an exploration into the heaviness of words.
Rachel lives in County Antrim with her husband, son and three rescue dogs.
